Yes, 'e waso pi walo en pimeja' pretty...4. Yes, 'e waso pi walo en pimeja' pretty much has to be particolored bird(s) ("pretty much" because a case can be made for the other reading -- the "no 'en'" rules is strictly only for DO, not for modifiers on/in DO). In any case, 'e waos walo e waso pimeja' has to be at least two different monochrome birds.

5a. 'mi toki e nimi/kalama "Hi" Quotations are names, which are adjectives in tp, and so need a noun to modify.

5b. 'toki pi wawa' is a no-no along another dimension: 'pi' only occurs before a unitary phrase of two or more words. I think using 'ijo' along with other markers of topicality is overkill: 'e ijo [topic]' or 'toki [topic]' are eqch sufficient (if the adverbial forms isn't used for languages -- but 'kepeken' seems to be surviving well).

I've tapped jan Mato about letting folks on the forum again.

kama pona tawa toki pona!Kaliputrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07907752362236005308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6124756795417322291.post-82263257314482233232014-03-02T13:46:54.416-08:002014-03-02T13:46:54.416-08:00Can I ask, what forums are these? I've tried to join the tokipona.net forum (the only active one I've found) but I can't get hold of jan Mato to authorise me. >_<

Newbie here: ideas are tentative!

1) Great info.

2) This makes intuitive sense. Prepositions remain tricky for me though.

3) Mind blown. Thanks!

4) What's the difference between 'mi lukin e waso pi pimeja en walo' and 'mi lukin e waso pimeja e waso walo'? Given this, I'd think 'mi lukin e waso pi pimeja en walo' would be assumed to be 'mixed lot' as with 3).

5a) Yeah, totally. 'mi toki e "Hi!" kepeken toki Inli' just makes sense.

5b) I'd go with the modifier route as with Pije's lessons, and allow 'toki pi wawa' to clear up the ambiguity if absolutely necessary. Or 'toki pi ijo (pi) [topic]' as a really formal version. Is nesting 'pi's like that fine?

toki pi Toki Pona li pona tawa mi.

Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11521390904893977855noreply@blogger.com
